EXCEPTIONAL DENTISTRY IN AN EDUCATIONAL AND CARING ENVIRONMENT

At Elgin Family Dentistry, we make sure your first visit with us is not only educational and informative, but also individualized and caring. We love being able to serve patients of all ages, from babies to grandparents. After your initial phone call with us, we will send you online intake forms via text or email to be completed before your visit.

Your initial appointment with your dentist will include a comprehensive set of digital X-rays, intraoral pictures of your teeth, assessment of teeth and gum tissue, and an oral cancer screening. We will then develop an individualized treatment plan and help you schedule your initial cleaning with one of our knowledgeable hygienists. We want to allow sufficient time for our dentists to not only answer all of your questions and concerns, but also to understand your overall goals for your smile, so please allow up to 2 hours for this first appointment.

We cannot wait to hear from you!

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

REVIEWING YOUR DIAGNOSIS AND NEXT STEPS

Once your first visit dental evaluation is complete, your dentist will present their overall findings. This will give you a clear picture of your current oral health status. We will talk to you about your general health and any specific oral health goals you have so that we can align our recommendations to suit your needs. We will also show you pictures of your teeth and any X-rays that are important to your treatment plan. Your dentist will then provide you with a comprehensive list of recommended treatments and outline the next steps necessary to achieve your desired outcomes. We will also provide a financial consultation to review costs, payment options, and insurance coverage so that you have everything you need to make informed decisions about your dental care.

Advanced Diagnostic Evaluations

DETAILED IMAGES FOR ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS

A crucial part of your first visit with us will be obtaining the necessary images to provide an accurate and detailed diagnosis and treatment plan. This may include a full-mouth series of X-rays and intraoral photographs. We use digital X-rays because they offer reduced radiation and clearer images. Following the X-rays, our team will take photographs of your teeth. X-rays and intraoral photos serves three purposes: to help your dental team provide you an accurate and detailed diagnosis, track any changes that may occur in your mouth over time, and to help you be an equal participant in your treatment plan — you deserve to know what we are looking at, too!

Full Mouth Periodontal Assessment (for Adults)

GUM HEALTH ASSESSMENT

Following your initial visit, we may recommend that you see one of our skilled hygienists for a full-mouth periodontal assessment. During that visit, a full-mouth periodontal assessment will help guide us toward the best treatment for maintaining your gum health. These gum health assessments involve gentle probing to measure the depth of the pockets between the teeth and gums. Our team will identify any signs of gum disease, such as inflammation or bone loss. Based on your readings, we will develop a personalized treatment plan to help restore your gum health.

Oral Cancer Screening

A PROACTIVE APPROACH

Early detection is extremely important when it comes to cancers of the head and neck. This is why we include oral cancer screenings as part of your regular dental checkup. Our dental team will carefully examine your head, neck, and mouth, for any signs of abnormalities, providing you with peace of mind and the best chance for early intervention.
